SEPTIC INSTALLATION

SOIL PERCOLATION ASSESSMENT

Establishing the level of permeability of a soil layer is required for selecting a septic systems device, according to the « Règlement sur l’évacuation et le traitement des eaux usées des résidences isolées (Q-2, r.8) ». Septic system is usually done using the natural soil in place. Selecting a septic system depends on the soil conditions found at the place of the property under investigation. Thus, different types of system can be recommended depending on the soil permability, the water table depth and other parameters. LCL Environment undertakes the whole management of the project «turn key», i.e. realisation of field work (exploratory test pit, soil percolation tests), laboratory testings, production of reports, specifications and site layouts relative to various applicable technologies.

SEPTIC SYSTEMS INSPECTION

LCL Environment carries out inspections of existing septic systems under the terms of the « Règlement sur l’évacuation et le traitement des eaux usées des résidences isolées (Q-2, r.8) ». Since August 12, 1981, any construction of an insulated residence of six bedrooms or less, any construction of another type of building rejecting domestic wastewater at a total rate of less than 3 240 liters/day, any construction of an additional bedroom, any renovation, construction or modification of a wastewater management system must be in compliance with this by-law.

Municipalities are responsible for executing and ensuring execution of this by-law. To that end, municipalities must make a decision, in collaboration with LCL Environment, concerning building permit applications. LCL Environment thus ensures that no water from an insulated residence’s toilet or wastewater from an insulated residence wastewaters system is rejected in the environment, and also ensures that wastewater management systems are in compliance with the requirements of regulations.

LEGAL COMPLIANCE ASSESSMENT

LCL Environment realizes Legal Compliance Assessments to identify abnormalities leading to defective functioning of the septic systems. The expertise consists in ensuring compliance with environmental standards stipulated in the « Règlement sur le traitement des eaux usées des résidences isolées (Q-2,r.8) » published by the MSDEP. LCL Environment offers expertise on soil properties and original specifications used in the implementation of the existing septic systems. A decision is given on the validity of the system and, if necessary, possible alternatives are identified.
